The Best Family RV Parks to Visit this Summer

Summer approaches, and you need a great RV trip for the family. There are so many campgrounds across the country, but not all of them are great for kids. As all parents are well aware, kids generally do not do well with just sitting around all day. While the adults may want to kick back with a beverage, the kids will be itching for something fun to do.

So, what do you do? How can you get the best of both worlds? We recommend visiting these kid-friendly campgrounds.

1. Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground in Orlando, FL

At the top of almost everyone’s list of the best family RV parks is Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground. For every Disney-obsessed child (or parent, for that matter), something this close to Disney World is sure to keep them happy. 

At this campground, you can fit as many as ten guests and a 45-foot or longer RV while taking advantage of the full hookups provided at each RV site. 

For the family, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground boasts tons of activities, including playgrounds, pools, boating, fishing, an arcade, and more. Don’t miss out on Chip n’ Dale’s campfire sing along in the evenings. There is truly something for everyone.

2. Ingalls Homestead in De Smet, SD

Get a taste of the prairie life with this secret gem. Ingalls Homestead is the author of Little House on the Prairie, Laura Ingalls, old homestead offered to the public for visitation. To celebrate her legacy, you and the family can take a covered wagon ride, drive a pony cart, learn about the prairie lifestyle, or do arts and crafts. If you are looking for somewhere fun and educational that honors history, this is the place to be. Of course, there are limited campsites, so reservations are highly encouraged.

Bring your RV, and for just $40 per night, you can use their water and electrical hookups, as well as 20, 30, and 50 amp electrical connections. Each site has its own campfire ring and picnic table. While there are no sewer connections to the sites, there is a dump station in their parking lot.

3. Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park all across the USA

No matter where you are in the United States, there is probably a Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park near you. They are known for bringing families together with non-stop activities, attractions, and action for an affordable price.

Get excited for pools, splash grounds, water slides, jumping pillows, wagon rides, mini-golf, lakes, beaches, boating, and more. For the adults, there are live bands and even karaoke. There’s typically hiking, geocaching, and birdwatching nearby, as well.

Yogi Bear’s RV campsites offer water, electric, and sewer hookups and 30 or 50 amp service. For added convenience, there are pull-through sites to make things easier and eliminate at least some of your stress. Each site also has its own campfire ring and picnic table.

4. Oceanside RV Resort in Oceanside, CA

As they say, is there anything better than camping oceanside? In the heat of summer, probably not. That’s why so many people recommend Oceanside RV Resort. 

For entertainment there is, of course, the beach. But there is also surfing, boogie boarding, sport fishing, yachting, golfing, and more. If that isn’t enough, it is near SeaWorld, Legoland, and the world-renowned San Diego Zoo Safari Park.

During the summer season, this resort does get a little pricier than other destinations on this list, but reviews suggest that it is well worth it. Back-in spots vary in price depending on the length of your RV

5. Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina in Newport Beach, CA

During the summer months, coastal California makes for an unforgettable experience. If luxury is your thing (and if you’re towing a Grand Design RV, we assume it is), beachfront glamping is as luxurious as it gets.

Pull up your RV and get sand in between your toes–right at your doorfront. Inhale the relaxing aroma of sea breeze and enjoy magnificent ocean views, all from your campsite. If the beach or the pools aren’t satisfying enough for your little ones, you can take them to Newport Dunes Water Park nearby. Also, during the summer, they project movies on the beach!

Each site has full hookups and a picnic table. Some sites have concrete slabs for parking, others have dirt. 

There are certainly many kid-friendly campgrounds all over the country. There are probably several right in your vicinity if you just want to get away for the weekend, or for longer vacations, you can venture farther. Whatever the case, there is always fun out there for your family.
